Self-saucing Jaffa pudding

Self-saucing Jaffa pudding

PREP: 35 MINS
COOK: 30 MINS

Ingredients:

  • 100g butter, melted, plus a little extra for the dish
  • 250g self-raising flour
  • 140g caster sugar
  • 50g cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • zest and juice 1 orange
  • 3 eggs
  • 150ml milk
  • 100g orange milk chocolate or milk chocolate, broken into chunks (we used Divine orange milk chocolate)
  • single cream or ice cream, to serve

For the sauce

  • 200g light muscovado sugar
  • 25g cocoa
Method:

  1. Butter a 2-litre baking dish and heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Put the kettle on. Put the flour, caster sugar, 50g cocoa, baking powder, orange zest and a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk together the orange juice and any pulp left in the juicer, the eggs, melted butter and milk, then pour onto the dry ingredients and mix together until smooth. Stir in the chocolate chunks and scrape everything into the baking dish.
  2. Mix 300ml boiling water from the kettle with the sugar and cocoa for the sauce, then pour this all over the pudding batter – don’t worry, it will look very strange at this stage! Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 30 mins until the surface looks firm, risen and crisp. As you scoop spoonfuls into serving bowls, you should find a glossy, rich chocolate sauce underneath the sponge. Eat immediately with vanilla ice cream or single cream.

Jaffa orange

Jaffa orange

The Jaffa orange, also Shamouti orange, is a sweet, almost seedless orange variety with a tough skin that makes it particularly suitable for export.

Jaffa oranges, also known as shamouti, are practically seedless, with a flavour that has been described as "excellent" and "sweet and fine."The two other main orange varieties cultivated in the region are the navel orange and the bitter orange; the latter is grown in Iran for its peel. The Jaffa orange is distinguished by its oval shape and thick peel, which is deep orange in color and normally very easy to remove from the fruit. Its tough skin makes it "especially suitable for export". As it produces very little juice and has a tendency towards delayed bitterness, it is unsuitable for juice production, although it does store well.

These oranges are very cold-tolerant, allowing them to grow outside of the subtropical regions normally associated with growing oranges. Jaffa oranges are susceptible to Alternaria, a type of fungus, and are prone to alternate bearing.

Giant jaffa orange cake

Giant jaffa orange cake

PREP: 35 MINS
COOK: 1 HR, 5 MINS

Ingredients:

  • 250g pack butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
  • 300g golden caster sugar
  • 4 large egg
  • 100g full-fat natural yogurt
  • 300g plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • zest 4 large orange (use the oranges below)

For the orange jelly

  • juice 5 large oranges (about 500ml), save the zest of 1 orange to finish
  • 100g golden caster sugar
  • 6 gelatine leaves

For the chocolate ganache

  • 300ml pot double cream
  • 200g milk chocolate, finely chopped
  • 100g dark chocolate, finely chopped

To finish

  • 2 tbsp apricot jam
  • zest 1 orange
Method:

  1. First make the jelly. Grease a 20cm round cake tin and line with cling film (you can use the 23cm tin that you will bake the cake in, but you’ll have to make this the day before so that you can remove it before making the cake). Remove the zest from 4 of the oranges and set aside for the cake. Tip the orange juice and sugar into a saucepan and gently heat to dissolve the sugar. Meanwhile, soak the gelatine leaves in cold water for a few mins until soft. Remove the gelatine from the water, squeeze out any excess and add to the warm orange juice, stir until the gelatine has dissolved. Pour the liquid into the lined cake tin and chill for at least 4 hrs or preferably overnight.
  2. Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3 and line a 23cm round cake tin with baking parchment. Tip all the cake ingredients into a large mixing bowl and combine with an electric hand whisk until smooth. Spoon into the tin and smooth over the surface. Bake in the centre of the oven for 55 mins, or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 15 mins, then invert onto a wire rack and leave to cool completely.
  3. Now make the ganache. Heat the cream in a small pan until hot. Put the chocolate in a small bowl and pour over the cream, leave for 10 mins, then mix well – you should be left with a smooth chocolate sauce. Leave at room temperature until the ganache cools and thickens a little (you can put it in the fridge to speed this up, but keep an eye on it, as it will set quickly).
  4. To assemble the cake, place it on a cake stand and trim the top to give you a flat surface. Warm the apricot jam in the microwave until a little runny. Paint it over the top of the cake, then flip the orange jelly out of its tin, and position on top. Using a palette knife, swirl the chocolate ganache over the orange jelly, letting it dribble down the sides of the cake a little. Serve straight away or within 24 hours.

NEDA chief: Duterte’s war on drugs a ‘necessary evil’

Published August 23, 2016 2:19pm
By TRISHA MACAS, GMA News

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) chief Soci-economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia on Tuesday stressed that attaining peace and order which includes President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs may be a necessary evil that will eventually make the Philippines more attractive to foreign investors.

"Well, definitely, the number zero in the zero to 10-point agenda is peace and order. And included in that is the fight against criminality and drugs and smuggling and tax evasion and other illegal activities," Pernia said in a press briefing in Malacañang.

"And if we have peace and order, which is the bedrock of the 10 points, the foundation of the 10 points, then, the investment climate will definitely, substantially improve and many will be rushing to the Philippines to invest," Pernia added.

The socio-economic planning secretary acknowledged the possibility that foreign investors may be turned off by Duterte's drug war or at least they have a negative perception about it.

Pernia then partly blamed the press for allegedly highlighting the stories of only those drug personalities killed.

"You know, the problem is the only ones interviewed by media are those whose husband or child had been killed or have been killed," he remarked.

"We should also try to get the view of others who approved of what’s happening and see it as really, see it as you know, necessary evil that needs to be, that has to happen in the pursuit of greater good," he added.

PHL a safe place

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa reported in the Senate probe on extrajudicial killings that 712 drug-related deaths were due to police operations while 1,062 were considered "deaths under investigation."

Officials from United Nations and the United States have both expressed alarm and concern over the rising death toll.

Despite this, Pernia reassured foreign investors that the Philippines is a safe place to visit just as long as they don't break any laws.

"I think foreigners have to be informed that if they come here and they behave, they didn’t do anything, you know, they don’t do any misdeed, then, they’re safe," he said. —ALG, GMA News

Exclusive: Will Poulter reveals his "life-changing" role in War Machine opposite Brad Pitt

It's the biggest Netflix movie yet.

BY ROSIE FLETCHER
 22 AUGUST 2016

Brit actor Will Poulter is going from strength to strength with his career.

In January, we saw him in The Revenant opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy; later this week his movie Kids in Love is released, where he stars opposite Cara Delevingne; and next he's starring opposite Brad Pitt in satirical comedy War Machine - a role he says changed his life.

"I play a US marine in the film," he told Digital Spy while chatting to promote the release of Kids in Love.

"I'm a small part of what I'd supposed you'd say is a big production. Brad Pitt is phenomenal in it, I got the opportunity to do several scenes with him, which was incredible, and to play a US Marine was one of the greatest honours, and most life-changing experiences I've ever had - the training, the research and the practice of that was a massive privilege, it's changed me long term I think."

When we asked what he felt had changed in him particularly, he said:

"I think in terms of my respect for servicemen, the way I view responsibility, the importance of looking after yourself from a physical perspective and the mental strength that's required in the real life scenarios.

"It makes you realise that as an actor, although your job might be celebrated publicly, it pales in comparison. And certainly in significance to what people who fight for the rights of our country do for a living."

War Machine is based on the non-fiction book The Operators by journalist Michael Hastings, and follows his travels with US military leader General Stanley McChrystal in Afghanistan in 2010. Pitt will play McChrystal in the movie produced and distributed by Netflix.

So was it intimidating working with actors of the calibre of DiCaprio and Pitt?

"Yeah, I guess it can be. Initially on paper as a notion, it seems quite surreal. But what's really gratifying about working with Leo and Brad and actors of their nature is that sense of feeling intimidated or irked by who they are to everyone else falls away, because they are so down to earth - before everything else, they're just very regular human beings, which makes it such an enjoyable process."

War Machine is directed by David Michod, who made Australian gangland thriller Animal Kingdom and the dystopian road movie The Rover with Robert Pattinson. But War Machine will be quite a different prospect according to Poulter.

"I'd say it's a satirical movie, that's the best way to describe it. David Michod is a very versatile film director - I'd say Animal Kingdom, The Rover and War Machine are all very different to each other."

Kids in Love opens in cinemas on August 26. War Machine comes to Netflix in 2017.

Trendy Angel

Trendy Angel, a comedy duo who won the M-1 Grand Prix 2015 manzai contest, will appear on Detective Funassyi. (Manzai is a form of stand-up comedy that’s usually done in pairs as give-and-take banter - more about manzai on Wikipedia.) They’re the two balding guys in the photo above. Their names probably don’t mean much unless you’re a fan of manzai, but they’re a very ‘hot’ act right now, so it seems Fuji TV is putting some money and effort into the Funassyi vehicle. (News article (Japanese)).

As happens quite often with manzai duos, one of the Trendy Angels is a lot more popular than the other - Saito-san, who’s on the far right in the photo (and he’s always called Saito-san, not Saito or Saito-kun or something else. He even calls himself Saito-san). Here he’s in a skit with Egusuplosion, telling the history of Commodore Matthew Perry’s arrival in Japan through song and dance. Saito-san is the one in the middle - he moves and sings pretty well, in a slightly creepy kind of way. (I admit to being a fan of Saito-san.)

Little boy in Aleppo a vivid reminder of war's horror

By Chandrika Narayan, CNN
August 18, 2016

This still image, taken from a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cfBmRW3isc" target="_blank">video posted by the Aleppo Media Center,</a> shows a young boy in an ambulance after an airstrike in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Wednesday, August 17. The boy has been identified as Omran Daqneesh, and the video of him has been circulating on social media.

(CNN)His name is Omran Daqneesh. The image of him, bloodied and covered with dust, sitting silently in an ambulance awaiting help, is another stark reminder of the toll of the war in Syria.

He is young -- one witness puts him at five years old, as old as the Syrian war itself. But his chubby arms and legs and the way he clings to the man who pulled him from the rubble of his bombed-out home suggest he is younger, maybe still a toddler.

He lived with his mother, father, brother and sister in the Syrian city of Aleppo, a contact on the ground tells CNN.

He and his family were injured when their house was destroyed by an airstrike Wednesday.
Miraculously, everyone in his immediate family survived. Activists blame the Syrian regime and Russia for the bombings.

Aleppo, in northern Syria, has been besieged for years during that country's civil war. Thousands of people have been killed there, including 4,500 children, and many lives have been upended.

Omran's family is among them.

One boy's story

The haunting, heartbreaking video of Omran, posted by the Aleppo Media Center, has been circulating on social media.

It shows a civil defense worker carrying the little boy to an ambulance. His cartoon character T-shirt is covered in dust, the left side of his face is bloody. He is silent despite the cacophony around him.

He was not crying at any point during the rescue.

"He was in extreme shock," according to a spokesman for the Aleppo Media Center, an activist group.

He looks dazed as he sits on the vehicle's orange seat, his hands on his lap, as he waits to be treated, as he waits for somebody to help him.

He raises his left hand to his eye and feels the area around his temple as if he has been hit there. He wipes his face and looks down at the blood.

But Omran has had a lucky escape -- he appears to have been one of the first pulled out of the rubble before his parents, the Aleppo Media Center says.

Omran's story repeated every day

"The truth is that the image you see today is repeated every day in Aleppo," said Mustafa al Sarouq, a cameraman with the Aleppo Media Center, who filmed the video. He spoke to CNN's Nima Elbagir via Skype.

"Every day we cover these massacres and these war crimes in Aleppo. When we go to the places that have been bombed, regime planes circle around and bomb it again to kill rescue workers that are helping civilians. They kill these people who are trying to rescue people."

It took nearly an hour to dig Omran out from underneath the rubble, an activist tells CNN. He and other rescuers used flashlights to bring out several people trapped beneath the bombed-out building. Video from the night scene shows another little boy, even younger than Omran, being placed on a stretcher on the same ambulance. A third shell-shocked man stumbles out of the collapsed building and walks into the ambulance.

Omran has now been released from the hospital.

The doctor who treated him said his injury was light compared to the others wounded in the bombing. He was discharged after two hours.

"Omran was in the same daze and shock you saw he had when he was in the ambulance," said Dr. Mohammedd, a surgeon in Aleppo, who doesn't want to use his last name for security reasons. "He was in the same situation, he did not cry at all."

His mother and brother, who were seriously injured, were smuggled out of Aleppo, and the family is now staying with relatives, the activist tells CNN.

"World is silent"

On Wednesday, three more people died and at least 12 others were wounded in the rebel-held al Qaterchi neighborhood in eastern Aleppo, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Aleppo Media Center. One of those killed is believed to be a relative of Omran's family.

More than 18,000 civilians have been killed in Aleppo province from March 15, 2011 through August 18, 2016, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

More than 4,500 of those killed were children under the age of 18, the Observatory said Thursday, after the video of Omran went viral.

"The whole world is silent to these crimes in Aleppo against women and children," said Sarouq.
"There are thousands of children like Omran who are being bombed daily, killed daily... Everyday this city is hit with every type of weapon, with every type of crime. The living conditions are terrible. The only route out of the city is totally unusable, it is shut. We call on the whole world this regime and these militias that are killing children and specifically the children of Aleppo. These crimes must be stopped in Aleppo."

A terrible choice

Some 1.5 to 2 million people still remain in Aleppo, once considered Syria's largest city. It is now divided into rebel-held and government-held areas. Those still there face a terrible choice.

Should they stay in a city subjected to relentless bombing and risk their lives and those of their children?

Or embark on a perilous journey across the sea, and endanger the lives of their families?

Last year another image of a Syrian boy, just 2 years old, blew up social media.

The photo of Alan Kurdi's body lying on a Turkish beach galvanized the world and became a symbol of the migrant crisis in Europe.

A Sudanese artist based in Doha, Qatar, captured the two stories that symbolize the suffering of millions into one heart-wrenching image.

"The picture describes two scenes from different time periods, but the same war and struggle of Syrian people and refugees of war all over the world," Khalid Albaih told CNN.

"Omran who was pulled from under the ruins after a Russian air strike in Aleppo and also of Alan who drowned in the Mediterranean."

Asked what inspired him to draw the pictures, Albaih said: "My inspiration came from the fact that I consider myself a refugee. My children are within the same age and could also be in the same situation."

UN calls for halt in Aleppo violence

Hope is far from reach for Omran and thousands of others like him.

The United Nations has been forced to halt nearly all aid deliveries in Syria, faced with the escalating fighting.

"In Syria, what we are hearing and seeing is only fighting, offensives, counter-offensives, rockets, barrel bombs, mortars, hellfire cannons, napalm, chlorine, snipers, airstrikes, suicide bombers," said UN envoy Staffan de Mistura told reporters in Geneva.

"Not one single convoy in one month has reached any of the humanitarian besieged areas. Not one single convoy. And why? Because one thing, fighting."

He abruptly cut short a meeting of the UN humanitarian task force in protest of the violence.

Mistura has attemped to increase pressure on the US and Russia, the task force's co-chairs, to help produce a 48-hour ceasefire in Aleppo.

On Thursday, Russia said it is ready to support that call from the UN Special Envoy to halt the violence in Aleppo to allow for the distribution of humanitarian aid.

"Coming from the international principles of humanitarian law and with intention to extend the scales of humanitarian mission in Aleppo, Russian Defense ministry is ready to support de Mistura's proposal about weekly 48 hour humanitarian ceasefires to deliver the city's citizens food, medicine and to restore vital service systems that got broken in rebels' shellfire," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told Russian media.

He said the dates and times of the humanitarian convoys will be set after Russia receives security guarantees from the United States.

Syria and Russia announced in late July the opening of humanitarian corridors for people to flee Aleppo, but many residents stayed in the city, fearing the corridors were not safe. De Mistura said introducing such measures should be left to the UN and its partners, and said that no one should be forced to leave.

Suffering in Syria

Meanwhile, more details of the suffering in Syria are highlighted by Amnesty International.

How to help Syrian refugees

Using survivors' accounts, the Amnesty report details the harrowing conditions for inmates and the brutal methods of torture including rape, sexual violence, flogging, burning and scalding.

UNICEF, the UN children's agency, estimates 8.4 million children are in need of humanitarian aid in Syria and neighboring countries.

What it's like inside Syria's prisons

"World has failed the Syrian People"

The UN's deputy secretary-general said he hoped Omran's story and image would get to people's hearts and brains.

"I think the whole world has failed the Syrian people," said Jan Eliasson, speaking on CNN's "Amanpour." Thursday.

"I think this is an illustration of the huge tragedy that the Syrian people are going through. We talk about this often as this being a nightmare. This is worse than a nightmare because you wake up from a nightmare. But in Syria they wake up to constant nightmares."

He called Syria one of the most frustrating conflicts in the world.

"This is like an infected wound in world politics," Eliasson said. "We've got to end this war."

The Price You Must Pay to Follow Your Dreams

Shannon Skinner
Broadcaster, Speaker, Writer
Posted: 07/12/2012

As a talk show host, I love to delve into the what inspires the hearts of my guests -- and their success secrets. Although I am merely a facilitator of getting their inspiring messages out into the world, and am by no means a success expert, I learn from -- and am uplifted by -- these women. What I have discovered is that we all have our own view of success, and the journey to success is truly unique to each individual.
I also know there is a price to pay for success. The question is: what is the price you are willing to pay?

A few years ago, I wrote a book that covered this topic entitled The Whispering Heart: Your Inner Guide to Creativity. Nothing has driven me more than my commitment to listen to what my heart says and, when required, finding the courage to act on those whisperings. This is when I feel successful. But I would be kidding myself if I thought -- even for a second -- that I have mastered listening to my heart. Regardless, I stay true to my inner guidance because I also know there is a price to pay if I do not listen to my heart.
Here is an excerpt:
The Price of Success
Every goal we set out to achieve has a price tag attached. There is a price to pay for everything in life. Success has its price. Having a family has its price. A life of riches and glamour has its price. Living from paycheque to paycheque has its price. Self-employment has its price, but so does working for a corporation. Whatever lifestyle we choose to embrace has its price. Forget the free lunch. Nothing in life is free. There is a price to pay for everything, even if it is a hidden cost.
Your dream has its price.
When we look at the big picture, we must determine if we are willing to pay the price to follow our desires. For instance, perhaps you want to start a second career -- your dream career -- but it may mean taking a salary cut to enable you to dedicate the necessary time. How much is it worth to you? If it means having less money in the short-term it may be worth it. However, if it means financial hardships for years to come forcing you to change your lifestyle, which may have a negative impact on your family, you have a bigger price to pay. Is it still worth it? In the greater scheme of things, if the answer is yes -- great! You are living on purpose -- zipping down the path you are meant to. If the answer is no, it may be time to revisit what gives meaning to your life.
Energy flows where attention goes. If you put all your time and energy into a relationship, you will not have enough time or energy for your creative projects. If you spend all your waking hours working on a creative project, your relationship will suffer because you are not able to put enough energy into it. However, if you share your passion with your mate, you may inspire them to do something in line with their heart. Or by being caught up in your creative project, it will allow your mate to have more time to spend with other family members or friends.
Your creativity has its price.
If you are in a high state of creative flow and work night and day on creating your masterpiece, your social life will pay the price. Maybe to you it is a small price to pay for creating something from your heart. There will always be social life to experience, but if you have that urge to put your energy into your creation, or making your dream come true, you may decide that putting your social life on hold may be worth it (at least for the short term). This is a decision you may be faced with.
If you are working madly day and night on your creation, your physical health may pay the price. At some point, you will be faced with making difficult choices. If you are afraid to make decisions that will enable you to follow your creative desires, that decision alone has its price. For instance, by not listening to your whispering heart, you may become depressed and experience health problems, or relationship problems.
What price are you willing to pay to follow your creative dream, and live with joy and fulfillment? What price are you willing to pay if you do not follow your dream?
Reframing "Success"
From the beginning of time, people around the world have given up something to follow their dreams. These people have achieved success, regardless of whether it made them financially rich or not. They are successful because at the very least they overcame self-doubt. Ultimately, they lived their lives and followed a dream, no matter the outcome. They paid the price for success and, I hazard to guess, if you had the opportunity to ask them they would likely say it was worthwhile.
Fame has its price tag, too. Movie star Marlon Brando was known to have remarked, "Fame is a curse." I think any celebrity, whether a Hollywood actor, musician, business tycoon, writer and the like, pays the biggest price of all for their creative dreams. To be in the public eye constantly must be extremely taxing, especially in those moments of public humiliation, regardless of whether it is a relationship break-up, drug problem or being slammed by the critics for a poor performance. While glamorous to many people on the outside, being in the limelight must be grueling. Consider superstars Michael Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Martha Stewart, and the former "king of rock and roll," Elvis Presley. Think of the unrelenting international media attention their lives have generated. I can only imagine how difficult it is for families and friends of superstars, and how it must impact their own physical and emotional health.
If you dream of being famous, or are infatuated with the notion, consider the price you will have to pay once you reach that destination. Fame will inevitably have a big price tag attached. For some people fame makes them want to shrivel up and become small. Others thrive off it. What's more, you cannot tell one from the other based on their public personas. It is only in the intimacy of their private lives that this may be obvious (unless, of course, they go public about their feelings). Think of the superstars who took their own lives, such as Marilyn Monroe and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. To the external world, these people had it all -- fame, success, glamour -- but really they were feeling quite opposite in their hearts. To see them in public one would not have known they did not feel successful as a person.
The search for fame for fame's sake may be a way of numbing poor self-worth and is not a balanced state to be in. Many people seek fame to make them be whole and important. If people are not feeling balanced before being famous, fame will inevitably spin them off their centres even more. Wanting to express creative genius is a worthy cause that may lead to fame as a by-product -- this is a healthy state for us. Otherwise, people who want fame to make them feel better about themselves often crash when they discover that fame, alas, does not bring happiness.
And so, if you dream of fame, ask yourself if you are willing to pay the enormous price attached to it. But first ask yourself why you want to be famous to begin with. In terms of being successful in life, what is important is to define success not by society's values or by comparison to other people, or whether you achieve fame, but to define success according to your own values.
Success truly is a matter of the perspective you choose to take. If you decide you are going to fail, guess what...you fail. If you decide you are going to achieve, guess what...you achieve.
The key is to make decisions not out of self-doubt, fear, guilt, resentment, anger, jealousy or desperation, but make decisions out of love for yourself and what inspires your whispering heart. When you take this perspective, you experience a life of joy and meaning. This is true success.
With regard to your dreams, chances are the satisfaction and joy you glean from the creative process alone is juicy enough of a reward. The bottom line is this: you cannot lose! Regardless of whether a creative project gets finished or an idea goes to market or a manuscript gets published, you have much to gain by just enjoying the creative process. Throughout the process, you learn about yourself and feel joy while exploring your creativity and living the life you choose.
This is when you are successful.

It's a never ending battle with tabloids and paparazzi. that's the price you have to pay for being in the spotlight, being in hollywood, for being famous. You'll be on the news everytime even if it's for non- sense, made-up news, big fat lie headlines just to sell their tabloids and magazines.
So might as well enjoy it and learn to balance your public and private life. Choose your battles in life. and when you reach the point when you're getting fed up just remember you are stronger than the shit's and lies tabloids made of you. You know your truth. Just don't lose yourself in the process and in the sea of paparazzi and fame. And sometimes it's better if you're just mum about it and don't say anything about the tabloids. don't waste your energy on those shit lies on tabloids.

Kuromame (Sweet Black Soybeans)

Kuromame (Sweet Black Soybeans) | JustOneCookbook.com  Kuromame (Sweet Black Soybeans) | JustOneCookbook.com

Kuromame (Sweet Black Soybeans) literally means “black bean (黒豆)” in Japanese, and it is often served on New Years Day as a part of Osechi Ryori (traditional New Years Meal).  The shinny black beans are beautiful contrasting with red lacquer “jubako” (お重箱) container, which holds all different kinds of colorful traditional meals.

Eating kuromame is considered good for your health for the new year.  My parents encouraged me to eat some kuromame on New Year’s Day but this is actually one of my favorite item among all the New Years dishes.  Kuromame’s sweet and slightly savory flavor can be quite addicting.
