3 Reasons Angelina Jolie Should Not Get 2016 Golden Globe Nominations

Angelina Jolie surely wants, or perhaps even expects, a Golden Globe nomination -- for Best Director or for Best Dramatic Actress -- for "By the Sea," in which she co-stars alongside husband Brad Pitt. But she shouldn't get one. Here are the three reasons why.

1) "By the Sea" was bad.

The film -- about a couple (Jolie and Pitt) whose marriage crumbles as they travel through 1970's France -- was tedious and ridiculous. Jolie wrote and directed the movie, and is therefore solely to blame for its terribleness.

"By the Sea" earned a pathetic 29 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. "So boring it defies description," wrote critic Rex Read. "'By the Sea' is not only a dog; it's a dog that's got fleas."

2) Jolie's performance in "By the Sea" was bad.

In a film where coherent dialogue seems to have been intentionally shunned, sighs, cries and groans are of great dramatic importance. Unfortunately, Jolie's sighs, cries and groans aren't particularly interesting, nor convincing.

3) Jolie doesn't deserve her much desired validation.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, host of the Golden Globes, gave Jolie a Best Actress nom for her role in 2010's horrific "The Tourist," simply because she was Angelina Jolie, and they wanted Angelina Jolie at their ceremony. They shouldn't do it again. One, it diminishes the credibility of the Golden Globes. Two, giving Jolie yet another undeserved nomination will only further aggrandize her ego, already massive judging by "By the Sea," which was ultimately nothing but an expensive vanity project.
