It was Pitt's first official promotional visit in China in many years. He had been persona non grata in the country since he played Heinrich Harrer in Seven Years in Tibet, a movie disliked by the Chinese authorities, as it includes an account of the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950 and subsequent ousting of the region's religious leader, the Dalai Lama, long considered a dangerous separatist by Beijing.

Brad Pitt Makes Red Carpet Appearance At 'Allied' LA Premiere

NOVEMBER 10, 2016 6:05 AM PST

Brad Pitt hit the red carpet on Wednesday night for the Los Angeles premiere of "Allied," his new espionage-themed film, set during World War II.

The actor was greeted by fans at the event and signed many autographs.

When asked by Dave Karger during a Facebook Live video stream (on the red carpet) about whether his hand hurt from so much signing, Brad shared his appreciation for the support he received at the event.

"It’s really sweet. Everyone has been really kind out here, and it's really nice to have all the support," he said.

Brad discussed being a World War II buff during the interview, which focused on the movie.

"I do seem to end up in a World War II film as of late," he said. "I didn't know much about the espionage world and what it took to get behind enemy lines, and to plant your characters. That was really interesting."

Brad stars alongside Marion Cotillard in "Allied," and speaks French in the movie. But, despite having spent time in France, as Dave noted, Brad hasn't mastered the language, the actor said.

"Yeah, not really. No, no, no," Brad said, when Dave said something to him in French. "And according got Marion, not so good. ... But yeah, I had to work at it really, really hard just to get that far. I say I'm going to get this language, but it may take me a lifetime."

"Allied" hits theaters on November 23, 2016.
