Antisocial Psychopathy

-I once read a psychological explanation on Jolie's lengthy homewrecking history - why does she do it?
It went something like this:

Well, she's essentially a man hater. She doesn't like herself much either, but she despises her father, not only for abandoning her but also for cheating on her idealized mother. So she feels unlovable and unworthy, so she subconsciously goes after and seduces married or other unavailable men. If they are seduced and fall into her game - she "proves" that men are adulterous cheaters who deserve punishment, which reassures her that she is right about her daddy. In seducing men, she also alleviates her own terror of being unlovable or unworthy.

I think it would e fair to say that she has antisocial and heavy narcissistic traits on top of her BPD.

-There is very little doubt that Jolie was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. She was voluntarily sectioned off at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute in the late '90's due to suicidal and homicidal ideation. She was diagnosed there - she meets at least 7 of 9 criteria.

1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.
-Admitted n psych ward after break up with Billy Bob due to mental breakdown


2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
-Live in boyfriend at age 14
-Seduced her mothers boyfriend and slept with him at age 16 - mother kicks her out
-Marries Johnny Lee Miller, who was already attached. Divorces him not long after. Jolie cheated on Miller with Jenny Shimizu (Jolie weds Miller wearing black leather pants and a white top with his name scrawled on the back in Jolie's own blood).
-Jolie claims she discovers that she is bisexual (Identity disturbance)
-Begins dating Jenny - on and off for few years
-Jolie sleeps with Ethan Hawke while he is engaged to Uma Thurman - causing a break up and Thurman publically calls Jolie "the town pump" - due to Jolie's promiscuity
-Jolie beds more: Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrel, Leo DiCaprio, and others
-Gets involved with Billy Bob (while he was dating Laura Dern), tatoos his name on her left shoulder, wears a vial of his blood, marries Thornton in Vegas rapidly which stuns Dern, again wears unusually dark themed clothes for wedding-with writing on it with her own blood
-Rumored to bed more Hollywood men - Nick Cage, Timothy Hutton and seduces Mick Jagger but rejects him promptly
-Begins adulterous relationship with 'Mr & Mrs. Smith co-star Brad Pitt, who at time was married to Jen Aniston; lies about affair and begins an intense smear campaign against Aniston
-Volatile relationship with her father - Jolie is ruthlessly unforgiving of her father - blaming him for abandoning her and cheating on her mother; however, Jolie looks past the fact her mother abandoned her at the age of 2, keeping Jolie to be looked after by a rotating group of nannies while her brother, James, remains under his mothers care (Splitting at its best - Jolie splits her parents - she idealizes her mother while completely diminishing her father - all good mom vs all bad dad)

3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
-Suddenly discovers she is bisexual
-Repeatedly claims she gets so absorbed by her roles that she loses sense of who she is, even claiming (interview on 'Inside the Actors Studio') that after a role she is acting is over she becomes depressed because she "I have no personality"
-Went from dark, death & blood obsessed, vixen/femme fatale, serial homewrecker, wild child to mother, humanitarian & wife - very abruptly
-Former long-time bodyguard tells InTouch magazine that : "Angelina has a public and a private persona"

4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.
-Drug abuse (heroin addiction)
-Sexually promiscuous
-Eating issues (possible eating disorder)

5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior
-In June 2001 Angelina Jolie revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that during her very early teens she began "thinking about not wanting to be around. It was when the reality of life set in, the reality of surviving."
-Chronically suicidal since age 12
-Numerous attempts to take her own life (overdose on pills - several attempts, sliced her body so badly trying to cut her jugular and she was almost successful, and once hiring a hitman to kill her):
In her own words: "This is going to sound so insane, but there was a time when I realized I was going to have to hire somebody to kill me. It comes from a place o… With suicide comes the guilt of all the people around you thinking that they could have done something. With somebody being murdered, nobody takes some kind of guilty responsibility."
-Self-mutilation from age 13-early 20's: In 2000 Angelina explained in Maxim magazine: "You’re young, you’re crazy, you’re in bed and you’ve got knives. So $#%^ happens." But in 1999 Access Hollywood interview she explained it in more detail: "I was..trying to feel something….I was looking at different things..thinking romantically about…about blood. I really hurt myself," and also she was quoted as saying: "I was just….a kid. I was like 13, And, I was saying that it is not something that is cool. It's not cool. And I understand that it is a cry for help…"

6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
-Repeated comments from close persons that she goes from utter despair to happy in short time (comments made by father, former employees, former nannies/caretakers, etc)
-Bodyguard claims she has "temper like a cobra"
-From the InTouch interview with bodyguard:
'In my opinion, the real Angelina is self-centered and a control freak. She has no patience at all. She doesn’t do things out of the kindness of her heart. And she’s totally psycho.' While Brad is laid-back and patient with his kids’ often wild behavior, Angelina is anything but. 'She screams and yells a lot, then walks away,' Bill says, explaining that Angelina would often 'disappear into her suite for hours,' leaving staffers — and Brad — to deal with her children. 'She would punish them with silence,' says Bill, adding, 'I think she could be abusive at times in a mental way.' If the children were to get upset by her withholding behavior, he says, Angelina didn’t seem to care. 'She is not moved by tears,' he explains. Still more disturbing, he recalls, Angelina has a 'quirky habit' of 'giggling when one of her kids would start crying.'

7. chronic feelings of emptiness
-In 1999 Access Hollywood interview she explained it in more detail: "I was..trying to feel something….I was looking at different things..thinking romantically about…about blood. I really hurt myself..." (referring to self-harm)
-Makes repeated comments/remarks in numerous interviews about being restless, chronically bored, needing to constantly be busy, and has a tattoo of a window because she claims no matter where she is, she is always looking out the window for something better (unsatisfied, unfullfilled, etc)

8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)
-Bodyguard claims she has "temper like a cobra"

9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms
-Admitted to psych ward after break up with Billy Bob due to mental breakdown in which she believed that she had killed Billy Bob (lost touch with reality)

Other known facts:

-Accordig to biographers Andrew Morton & Ian Halperin, Jolie's highschool psychotherapist labelled her a psychopath - written in her file is this comment: “Angelina Voight is unrestrained, inclined to antisocial psychopathy.”
-Death & blood obsession, collects knives, and into taboo sexual practices
